The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter
Just over the border of Soho you will find this wonderful museum; a veritable treasure trove of beautiful objects, interesting artifacts, and fascinating facts.
The museum is made of two parts; at no cost you can access the galleries filled with fine examples of jewellery and objects once made on the premises and in the surrounding businesses. Explore the world of precious and semi-precious materials. Get an insight into history of the industry and the lives of those who worked in it.
For a small charge you can take a guided tour of the Works; from the administration offices to the factory floor. You will see the amazing machines used to create such fine pieces of art; follow the manufacturing process from order to completion; and see practical examples of how the highly skilled workers turned raw materials in beautiful creations. And then round it off with a visit to the Smith & Pepper Tea Room for refreshments.
A great use of a few hours for the whole family!
